  FAQ's

Where are these cranes manufactured?

Celtic Self Erecting Cranes are manufactured in Donegal Ireland by Mantis Cranes.
What power supply is required to run the cranes?
All of the cranes require three phase 380v-400v.  The power supply can be either main electric or
a diesel generator
Can the cranes be erected and dismantled easily on site?
Yes, the cranes can be erected / dismantled on site easily.
Can the cranes be lifted into position using a mobile crane if towing is not an option?
Yes. On occasion, when site access allows towing in advance of construction, at project completion
the crane can be lifted out.
On what type of base must the crane be erected?
It depends on your site’s ground conditions. The most common specified by site engineers is:
hardcore area with steel plates under each outrigger of the crane; crane erected on concrete
slab cast at the site. You should have your site engineer specify the type of base required.
All the information for base design is included of the spec sheet of each model.
Can you have more than one crane working on a site?
Yes, multiple smaller cranes can work on projects in lieu of one large crane. Several smaller cranes
can be cost effective, plus provide greater material handling flexibility. This then enables optimizing
the productivity of all skill trades on site.
How are the cranes moved from site to site?
There are two modes of transportation. If the crane has high speed road axles fitted, it can be towed
with a standard articulated / rigid truck. However, these high speed axles are expensive so most
cranes are fitted with site axles capable of moving the cranes around site and onto a low loader
trailer similar to that used to move excavators and other construction machinery.
How are the cranes operated?
Cranes are fitted with radio remote controls, allowing the operator to walk around the site as he
operates the crane. Because he is always in sight of his load, this eliminates the need for a second
person to give signals. If the remote control fails, a cable control can be connected to the crane
continuing operation.
Is a mobile crane required to erect these cranes?
No, these machines erect themselves on site without assistance of any other lifting equipment.
Is there any danger of the operator over loading the crane?
When the crane is erected on site, the service engineer sets the lifting capacities of the machine.
These cannot be accessed by the crane operator at any stage there after. Unlike other lifting
equipment, when the overload warning signal is activated, crane hoist and trolley movements
are automatically restricted with no over ride option available to the operator.
Are the cranes safe in high wind?
Yes. When the crane is not in use, the rotation / slew brake must be released to allow the crane to
windmill. Each crane is fitted with a wind speed meter to alert the crane operator of the current
wind speed on site.
